The 1654-7 Down Survey map of Burges parish shows a medieval watermill standing on the W bank of a river in close proximity to the medieval church (TN035-038001-) of Burgess (NLI, MS 718). This watermill was located along the E bank of the river to the S of a motte castle (TN035-037----). A tuck mill and mill pond depicted on the 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map standing beside Burges Old Bridge (TN025-040---) on the E bank of the river, 380m S of Burges motte castle (TN055-037----) and 330m S of Burges medieval church (TN055-038001-) and graveyard (TN055-038003-) is roughly located in the same area as the location of the mill on the Down Survey map. The tuck mill appears to be post-1700 in date and there is no physical remains of a medieval mill at this location. The precise location of the medieval watermill has not been identified although it is possible that the Tuck Mill reused the existing watercourse belonging to the medieval mill.
