Marked on the 1841 and 1909 editions of the OS 6-inch maps. Situated in a low-lying area. Now covered over and used as the local water supply. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran. Linked to Saint Loughra, the well was traditionally visited for the cure of eye ailments and general healing. It was also associated with local folklore involving offerings of coins and prayers for protection.
