Toberlackan, the well of the hillside in County Kerry, emerged beside ancient underground chambers that may have served as burial places before St Lacken Christianised them. People likely drew water there for healing or ritual, trusting the hidden chambers beneath to hold older lives and forgotten prayers. The circular enclosure marked on early surveys has largely vanished, leaving the well exposed on the hillside like a memory half erased.

This is marked on the 1842 and 1916 OS maps as 'Toberlackan' (Tobar Leacan - well of (the) hillside). Situation and Description: This well would seem to have been situated in a circular enclosure (KE014-020004-) on the 1842 map. However, by the 1916 map, very little of the enclosure would appear to be left. Directly behind the holy well lies a complex of underground chambers (KE014-020002-). Possibly this was some type of ancient burial place which was later Christianised by St Lacken. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle.
