Tobercoolan is a holy well traditionally associated with Saint Cuan, a 7th-century Irish saint known for his ascetic practices and healing miracles. The well was historically visited for its supposed curative properties, particularly for skin ailments and eye conditions, and was often marked by small rituals such as the throwing of coins or the lighting of candles.
