In low-lying marshland. Named ‘Toberbellananima’ in Gothic script on the 1838 and 1920 editions of the OS 6-inch maps. According to the OS Letters (O’Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 311), the well was known as ‘Beúl an Anmh … the mouth of the soul’. It is one of three natural springs that feed a short NE-SW flowing tributary of a stream to the SW. Named ‘Open Well’ on the current OSi digital mapping. linked to Saint Bellanán, a lesser-known early Irish saint, and traditionally associated with cures for animal ailments. The name "Toberbellananima" derives from "Tobar Bellanáin an Aimh," meaning "Well of Saint Bellanán of the Ghost" or "of the Soul," suggesting a spiritual or protective function in local folklore.
