Tober-na-Fairge is an ordinary well in County Mayo, Ireland, recorded on the 1921 map but absent from the 1838 edition. A 1995 inspection found no great antiquity and no holy-well tradition, stripping it of mystical clutter. That absence is liberating: it may have been a drinking source, a marker, a child’s climbing toy or a forgotten household convenience. The name still sounds like a small door opening onto water, even if the door leads only to a field.
