Redmond Barretts Castle stands in County Mayo, Ireland, though no public record explains when it was built, who lived inside, or why it fell away. The name suggests a barrett family claimed the land, perhaps defending a road, a harbour or a rivalry now forgotten. The absence of facts does not diminish the place; it returns the castle to the region where unseen hands shaped stone and ordinary people lived beside it.
