Tiglagheany (in ruins)

In a large graveyard on seashore to E of Cill Éinne. Part of St Enda's E. Chr. monastery. This conserved church (E-W; L 5.9m, Wth 2.9m), known locally as Teaghlach Éinne, is a Nat. Mon. The E gable, with projecting antae and round-headed window, along with greater portion of N wall are E. Chr. while W and S walls, and N doorway, are probably 17th-C. The interior contains two bullauns (GA119-020009-, GA119-020010-), three high cross fragments (GA119-020011-) that are cemented together, an inscribed stone (GA119-0200008-), five cross slabs (GA119-020004-, GA119-020005-, GA119-020006-, GA119-020007- and GA119-020013-), and part of a high cross head (GA119-020012-). No trace exists of 'St. Eany's Grave' (GA119-020002-), named but not marked on OS 6-inch map. Tiglagheany (Cill Éinne) church was built as part of St Enda's Early Christian monastery and dates to the early medieval period, likely between the 7th and 10th centuries. It is a small, east-west oriented church with a projecting east gable and antae, reflecting a typical Irish early Christian architectural style; its location within a large graveyard and its status as a National Monument highlight its historical and religious significance.
