Thoor Ballylee Castle was built in the early 13th century by the de Burgo family, Norman lords of Connacht, and later held by the O'Flaherty clan. It is remembered as the childhood home of the poet W.B. Yeats and as a site of cultural and historical significance in Irish literary heritage.
