Thomas Martin Aloysius Burke

Burke became the fourth bishop of Albany after travelling from Swinford, County Mayo, to America, where he spent decades serving Catholic communities. He enlarged a boys' asylum, reduced diocesan debt, renovated the cathedral, and built cordial relations with Protestant clergy. His life moved from a Irish birthplace through American formation into episcopal responsibility, giving that distance a clear purpose.
