This black commemorative plaque records: 20 Burdon Terrace. Thomas Burt 1837-1922. Northumberland Miners’ leader 1865-1913, M.P. for Morpeth 1874-1918, the first working class M.P., lived in this house from 1892 to his death. Recorded plaque organisation: City of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Thomas Burt was a prominent Northumberland miners' leader and the first working-class Member of Parliament, serving from 1874 to 1918. His election marked a significant step in the political representation of the British working class.
