Freestanding limestone-built national school, dated 1860, having projecting three-bay entrance to two-pile block with four-bay side elevations and blank front elevation. Hipped slate roof to main part and gabled roof with cut-stone copings to entrance, with tall ashlar chimneystacks to front part and rear having string courses and stepped copings. Ashlar limestone walls. Square-headed windows having tooled voussoirs, cut-stone sills and replacement uPVC windows. Square-headed replacement timber door with tooled voussoirs and flanked by small windows and having inscribed limestone plaque reading 'Curraghmore Female School Patron Richard D'Arcy 1880'. Yard to front bounded by rubble stone wall having course tooled stone piers with caps and wrought-iron pedestrian gate.

This school house is well built of limestone ashlar and is of an older style than its age. It is an excellent example of a school house patronised by a local personage.
