Fiddaun Castle stood as a tower house in 1574 under Melaghlin Mc an Abbe, but time has reduced it to a rectangular depression and grassed-over rubble banks. The site keeps a quiet ghost of its shape, marking where human ambition once rose before returning to the earth.

On a slight rise in gently undulating grassland, surrounded by a field system (GA031-035001-). In existence in 1574 when it was in the possession of 'Melaghlin Mc an Abbe' (Nolan 1901b, 122). All that survives is a rectangular depression (L 11.7m, Wth 7.5m) surrounded by grassed-over banks of collapsed rubble. An internal division is visible within the depression. Melaghlin Mc an Abbe held the castle at Fiddaun in 1574. It is remembered as a historical site associated with local Gaelic lordship in the late 16th century.
