The Manor House

Detached four-bay two-storey house, built c.1870, having gable-fronted breakfront end bays with full-height hipped roofed canted bay windows to front (south-east) flanking recent glazed porch. Gable-fronted single-storey addition to side (north-east), two-storey return to rear (north-west) and later single-storey addition to side (south-west). Further recent additions to rear. Hipped slate roofs to central block and canted bays, having pitched slate roofs elsewhere. Rendered chimneystacks and uPVC clad eaves course, having carved timber bargeboards with finials to gable-fronts. uPVC rainwater goods throughout. Rendered walls throughout having rendered plinth, render sill courses to first and second floors of canted bays. Square-headed window openings with render sills and uPVC casement windows throughout. Pointed arch window opening with render sill to side (north-east) elevation with uPVC casement window. Square-headed door openings throughout having replacement uPVC doors with single-pane overlights and stone steps.

This generously proportioned house forms part of a group of fine late nineteenth century house with the Terrace and Eastern and Western Villas. Its striking gable fronts, full-height canted bay windows and decorative timber bargeboards are typical Victorian features. Its prominent location overlooking the Owenboy River and enjoying a fine view of Crosshaven to the south, makes it a notable addition in the landscape.
