According to Power (1908, 49) an early road (TS088-039001-) ran SSE from the ford of the Tar at Goaten Bridge to Ardmore. The site of this ford is now occupied by an 18th-century bridge, known as 'Goats Bridge'. It is a limestone bridge, with five round-arched spans, the central arch is the largest, with spans decreasing in size on either side. The bridge appears to be single-period as there is no evidence of widening. The arches are constructed with broad, cut-stone voussoirs. There are rounded cut-waters upstream to the W.
