The Gloup is a sea cave formed by coastal erosion, typical of the basaltic and sedimentary rock formations along the north coast of Scotland. It is associated with local folklore, notably as the site where the 17th-century poet and chieftain, Alasdair Mac Mhaighstir Alasdair, is said to have hidden during political unrest.
