Why this matters
Langaton Point is a coastal headland composed primarily of Lewisian gneiss, some of the oldest rocks in the British Isles, dating back approximately 2.7 to 3 billion years. These highly metamorphosed rocks formed deep within the Earth's crust through intense heat and pressure, and were later exposed by erosion, making the area notable for its ancient geological history.
