The Castle hillfort

Scheduled monument

What is recorded here

Castle Hill rises above Cattistock as one of Dorset's oldest defended places, its ridgeline still marking the boundary between human ambition and open sky. People may have climbed that slope to watch weather, herds or invading shadows long before written history gave the act a name. The land remembers urgency even when the tools of urgency have rotted to soil.
The National Heritage List for England records The Castle hillfort as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
