Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records 'the Castle', Dornoch as Castle (medieval)(possible), Lairds House (17th Century)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
The Castle in Dornoch was likely built by the Earl of Sutherland in the 13th or 14th century and later held by the Keith family in the 17th century. It is remembered as a historic seat of local power and as an example of medieval and early modern architecture in northern Scotland.
