Termoncarragh Cemetery holds the quiet aftermath of the Arandora Star tragedy, where coastwatchers and gardaí identified drowned soldiers washed ashore near Belmullet in August 1940. The dead arrived without warning, carrying only small human things such as a toy soldier, letters and unfinished promotion insignia.
