Fahy or Doona Castle in ruins

Castle, tower house

What is recorded here

Doona Castle stands in ruins at Fahy, County Mayo, its tower house reduced to a broken silhouette against the sky. The exact date of its building and the names of its owners have faded from memory, leaving only stone and vacancy behind. What remains is a shape strong enough to mark the land but empty enough to invite invention.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
