Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Tartraven Chapel as Chapel (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1km. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Tartraven Chapel is associated with Saint Fillan, a 7th-century Irish monk and healer, and is linked to traditions of water-based healing rituals. Local folklore suggests that the nearby well or spring was believed to have curative properties, particularly for skin ailments and general well-being.
