What is recorded here

Site of Sunday Well formerly located at the entrance into Hillsboro (Ó Danachair 1958, 82). Now a gated entrance to a tree-lined avenue west of a row of Victorian cottages. No surface remains visible. Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Revised by: Caimin O'Brien Date of revised upload: 17 April 2023
Linked to Saint Sunday, an early Irish saint associated with healing wells, the Sunday Well at Laraghcon was traditionally visited for its supposed curative properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes and general wellness. The well's name and function reflect a common medieval Christian practice of associating holy wells with local saints and their miraculous attributes.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
