Structure

This structure (L 6.1m; Wth 5.5m; D 0.23m) consisted of an irregular and widely dispersed deposit of c. 47 roundwoods (diam. 0.06-0.11m; L 0.2-0.3m) and c. 20 pieces of brushwood (diam. 0.025-0.055m; L 0.09-0.72m) laid one piece deep. The wood was in a moderate to good state of preservation, however, the majority of the elements were broken and little appeared to be in situ. Metal-cut toolmarks were evident throughout. Two sherds of post-medieval pottery were recovered from the peat around it, further suggesting disturbance. A wide variety of wood species was used, including willow, hazel, ash, alder, birch and apple-type.
