What is recorded here

Bermingham (2014) recorded a large broken wooden piece and a angled stake near a Meath drain, preserving the shape of a lost structure. The wood had seven clean faces cut by a broad axe, proving skilled human hands shaped the peatland before milling destroyed most of it. Radiocarbon dating and species analysis were taken from the horizontal fragment, while the stake stood broken at 40 degrees, pointing to a building or marker now reduced to scattered remains.

A finely dressed large piece of broken wood on the field surface 0.86m from the drain edge. About 12m to the northeast is a single stake. Both sightings are recorded here as ME046-080----. The horizontal piece may not be in its original location. It was aligned northeast - southwest and although reasonably solid was both shredded and broken by milling. The piece was dressed on seven faces bearing flat, clean facets made with a wide, flat metal-bladed axe with slightly expanded corners. The stake measured 0.045m in diameter and was set at a 40° angle. Its top was broken from milling. The horizontal element was sampled for radiocarbon dating and wood species analysis.
