Structure

A thick band (Wth 2.3m; D 0.39m) of predominantly light brushwood with occasional twigs and some light roundwoods in opposing drain faces. The wood is distributed through a significant depth and may not represent a single deposit. Evidence for a clear structure is lacking and the elements are irregularly laid. Wood species are dominated by birch with some alder also identified. The site is situated in well-humified Sphagnum peat. It is one of thirteen sites in close proximity in a 30m stretch of this drain and is located 2.8m SE of SMR OF015-242---- and 2.2m NW of SMR OF015-251----. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
