Six thousand years of rain and darkness have reduced the cabin to a shallow ghost, yet the wood still holds the shape of human hands. You can trace one toolmark on the degraded timber, a tiny proof that someone cut, fitted and lived before memory began. The peat swallowed the roof and walls, but it preserved the act of building. Stand beside the abandoned cut and imagine the smoke rising through a roof no longer there.

This structure consisted of a fragmented and disturbed deposit (L 3m; Wth 0.5m; D 0.15m) of two heavily degraded roundwoods, a piece of brushwood and two possible split timbers. It was located within an abandoned peat-cutting and the condition of the wood was poor, only one toolmark was present. Two toghers (LF004-036---- and LF004-040----) lay c. 10m to the SW (Moore and O’Connor 2009a, 35-6, EDC 33). Compiled by: Mary Tunney based on data kindly supplied by Caitríona Moore.
