Structure

A haphazard layer of roundwoods and brushwood exposed in a turf bank during hand cutting of turf. The roundwoods included chisel and wedge points and were laid in no particular order but were partially exposed in section. Timbers were visible approximately 30cms from the upper surface of the peaty soil, the spread was approximately 60cms in W and just 20cms in D. The wood was in good condition with bark surviving on some pieces. The individual pieces of timber ranged from 5cm to 10cms in diameter. The landowner had identified the timbers as being worked and had notified the NMI. Compiled by Margaret Keane 22/07/16 Updated 22/07/16
