What is recorded here

Bog gaps reveal strange things, but this one may have been nothing more than a lost tool. The roundwood lay in the peat face with a metal-cut chisel point, small enough to have slipped from a hand or fallen into a cut. It is gone now, caught between dismissal and wonder, yet that sudden appearance still suggests human presence in the dark damp earth.
A roundwood (L 0.13m; diam. 0.06m) in the peat face of a private bog adjacent to the Bord na Móna bog. The roundwood had a metal-cut chisel point. The NGR for this site is an approximation based on preliminary field notes as the site was subsequently destroyed before the record could be completed. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1998. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument. The original survey description was compiled by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin). Assessed and revised by: Caimin O'Brien, Paul Walsh Date of upload: 23 May 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
