Limestone street name plaque, 1730, inscribed 'Francis Street 1730 S. Pike.

Erected in the first part of the eighteenth century, this plaque is a significant contributor to the architectural heritage of the city. This area of the city became known as Pike's marsh, following the leasing of this marsh by Joseph Pike from the Corporation in the early eighteenth century. This plaque is an interesting physical reminder of the personality and development associated with this part of the city.
