St Mary's church stood at the foot of Shandon Street from 1696 until demolition in 1879, serving the same parish that later moved into Sunday's Well. Its graves and monuments scattered into St. Anne's Shandon, while the forgotten churchyard became a children's playground. The building vanished, but its dead and decorations continued somewhere nearby, preserved rather than lost.

Built in 1696 (Brady 1863, 283) in place of earlier church of StMary's Shandon (see CO074-03301-), at top of Shandon Hill. Taken down in 1879 when present St. Mary's Shandon, situated in Sunday's Well, was consecrated (O'Shea 1943, 32). St. Anne's Shandon (CO074-03303-) now houses various monuments from St. Mary's.
