Stone Cross

On a slight rise in a level landscape. A latin cross composed of a single piece of sandstone (visible H 3.2m; breadth of arms 0.7m; T 0.2m; Wth of shaft 0.42-0.49m) with a boss at the junction of the arms on the E and W faces widens out at the base (Wth of shaft 0.67m) and was supported in a shallow socket in the bedrock by stone wedges when it was excavated (Sweetman 1981-2) and straightened (total H 3.9m). Cloonshanville abbey (RO-015-03001-) is c. 300m to the NE.
