What is recorded here

Anomalies of the archive are common. The chamber is a visible chamber, not a hidden chamber, and that is why it is not anonymous. It is also a record of the danger of a hidden chamber, which is why it is not a toy. A circle of stones in County Cork is not a claim that the whole world is a circle of stones. It is a claim that one place on earth still shows the shape of the chamber, and that this is the exception which proves the chamber is real.
In marshy ground, c. 30m NW of another fulacht fiadh (CO049-041002-); incorrectly named 'Stone Circle' on 1940 OS 6-inch map. Circular mound of burnt material (diam 13m; H 0.8m) enclosed by stone revetment. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
