Standing stone

What is recorded here

In lush pasture, on a low rise, with land falling gently to E toward stream. Monument identified during ASI fieldwork. An upright limestone standing stone (H 1.05m), rectangular in plan (T max. 0.23m; L max. 0.3m) with its long-axis N-S. The E elevation is convex and the S, W and N elevations are vertical. The ground around the base has been eroded by cattle whilst using the stone as a scratching post. The top of the stone tapers toward the apex. A field boundary to the S (long-axis WNW-ESE) has been removed. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 24 October 2013
Likely dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, this standing stone may have functioned as a boundary marker, ritual focus, or commemorative monument. No specific folklore or further archaeological context is recorded for the site.

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
