Rossmackowen Commons holds a rectangular standing stone aligned north-south on the lower south slopes of Hungry Hill, overlooking Bantry Bay. It rises 1.45 metres and measures 1.25 by 0.35 metres, still pointing across the bay as if marking a route, a warning or a promise. People may have placed it there to be seen from the water, to help travellers find the hill or to give a name to the edge of the land.
