Standing stone in Pickardstown

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Situated on a S-N spur with valleys to the W and E. This is a stone with a diamond-shaped cross-section (dims. 0.5m x 0.3m; H 1.6m) oriented NE-SW. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload/revision: 27 May 2011
Likely dating to the Early Christian or later prehistoric period, the stone's NE-SW orientation and diamond-shaped cross-section may indicate ritual or symbolic alignment. Its form suggests possible use as a boundary marker, memorial, or early Christian cross-stone, though specific meaning or folklore is not recorded.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
