What is recorded here
Lackabane in Muskerry East once held a standing stone tall enough for PJH Hartnett to record before people removed it and erased every visible trace. The land keeps no marker now, only the memory of a vertical shape breaking the horizon and demanding attention. Forgetting is not the same as losing because the stone still stands inside the story and resists the hands that buried it.
Hartnett (PJH) recorded standing stone here. Removed. No visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
