Standing stone in Garranbaun

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Garranbaun is a hidden standing stone in County Cork, Ireland. Bowman measured it at nearly four feet tall on J. Cronin's land before the exact spot vanished from modern knowledge. The loss transforms a ordinary stone into a ghost marker, proving that even solid stone can disappear when human memory stops pointing at it.
Bowman (1934, 511) recorded standing stone on J. Cronin's land, '...3ft 10in by 4ft 2in by 1ft 6in'. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
