Standing stone in Dromore (carbery W. (w.d.) By.)

Standing stone

What is recorded here

An invisible stone may still stand in Dromore, hidden beneath grass or buried by men who never knew what they moved. The dimensions survive in a file, but the stone itself has vanished from human sight. Perhaps it waits for someone to stop measuring and start listening.
A possible standing stone (36" [0.91m] x 53" [1.35m] x 30" [0.76m]) was recorded at this location in the 1990s (SMR file). It was described as being rectangular in plan and orientated N-S. A subsequent search of the area failed to locate the possible standing following extensive field clearance. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
