Standing stone in Dromagorteen

In Bonane Heritage Park, on a SW-facing slope, in the valley of the Sheen River. This standing stone (0.55m x 0.34m; H 0.82m) is subrectangular in plan and is orientated E-W. It leans to the S. A rath (KE102-031----) lies c. 60m to the S and a hut site (KE102-031001-) c. 70m to the SSW. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Probably dating to the Bronze Age, this standing stone may have had ritual or territorial significance, possibly linked to the nearby rath. Its orientation and location suggest it could have been part of a ceremonial landscape or used as a marker in prehistoric land use.
