Standing stone in Coumduff

This stone stands against the S side of an E-W field boundary, on a very gentle S facing slope at the foot of the central mountain ridge. It measures 1.83m in height and 1.36m x .4m at base; E-W. The W side rises almost vertically, but the E side exhibits a pronounced shoulder, only .2m above the ground, before tapering evenly towards the top. The above description is derived from J. Probably dating to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age, this standing stone may have functioned as a territorial marker or had ceremonial significance.
