Standing stone in Coolbane (duhallow By., Knocktemple Par.)

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Coolbane held a tall stone marker on B. Purdon's land beside a fort field, but people removed it before modern cameras arrived. It is gone now, leaving only memory and a hole in the local landscape.
Bowman (1934, 635) recorded standing stone on B. Purdon's land '...in the fort field. This dallan was removed many years ago'. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
