Rathcoole Commons still holds the Long Stone, a two-metre slab of grey pressure set in the Long Field. It is not a monument to a named king or a dated battle, but a marker of the landscape itself. People walked past it, measured it, and left it alone because it belonged everywhere and nowhere. The stone does not need a story; it is the story.

The OS Letters describe a large stone (L 2.44m; Wth 1.22m; T 0.92m) on the Commons of Rathcoole which was known locally as the 'Long Stone' in a field called the Long Field. Not precisely located. (Herity 2001, 38)

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
