What is recorded here

One stone still stands in a Donegal field, but the larger twin lies buried in a boundary ridge. A man pulled that heavy stone from the earth to make room for cultivation, believing he was only clearing dead weight. The land kept the shape of the loss, holding the removed stone inside its own body while the smaller witness remained exposed on the ridge.

The 2nd and 3rd editions of the OS 6-inch map note a 'Standing Stone' here. A stone, c. 2.6m long, set in a field boundary was identified by the landowner as the standing stone he had removed during reclamation. Another stone, c. 0.95m high, is still standing in the same field. Situated on the crest of a NW-SE running ridge. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. Likely dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, the stone may have served as a territorial marker or had ceremonial significance. No specific folklore is recorded for this site.
