What is recorded here

Cahergarriff in County Cork lost its standing stone around 1940 when someone carried it two fields west, erasing the exact spot where it first stood. The stone did not disappear, but it joined the ordinary land instead of marking a particular memory. People may have moved it to clear a field, protect it from breaking, or simply because stones tempt hands. What is certain is that the place changed before the stone did, and the original location now exists only in the absence of the stone.
