What is recorded here

Situated on a low rise with good views to the N. A limestone pillar (H 1.5m; dims 0.2m x 0.15m) rectangular in plan which tapers towards the top. The area around the base has been trampled by cattle so it now stands in a hollow. Possibly a prehistoric standing stone although the stone has the appearance of a livestock scratching post of post-1700 date. Compiled by: Frank Coyne and Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 4 April 2018

Likely dating to the Bronze Age, this standing stone may have functioned as a territorial marker or had ceremonial significance. Its alignment and visibility suggest a possible role in ritual activity or as a landmark within a wider landscape.
