St Stephen's Well is associated with St Stephen, one of the earliest Christian martyrs, and such wells were often sites of pilgrimage and healing in Ireland. Traditionally, these wells were visited for their supposed curative properties, particularly for skin ailments and general well-being, with rituals often involving the collection of water on specific feast days.
