St. Fechins Well

In densely overgrown ground, adjacent to a road. A subcircular stone-lined well (2m x 1.8m; D 0.5m) fed from S by a small stream which in turn is fed from a larger stream c. 20m to S. A stone step leads down into the well on the N side. There are four other wells associated with St Fechin in the vicinity (SL026-010----; SL026-015----; SL026-151----; SL033-062----). St. Fechín's Well is associated with St. Fechín of Fore, an Irish monk and saint known for his healing miracles and founding of monastic sites in the 7th century. The well is traditionally believed to have curative properties, particularly for eye ailments and general healing, and was likely a site of pilgrimage and ritual washing.
