St. Burchins Church stands on the highest point of a subrectangular graveyard in County Tipperary, with tombstones marking deaths from 1772 to the twentieth century. The natural hill lifts the eighteenth-century Protestant church above undulating terrain, giving the dead a visible ridge rather than a hidden ditch. People may have called it ancient before any stone survived, but the surviving markers prove only that burial continued long after the church was built.
