What is recorded here

Marked on the 1837 and 1915 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and described in gothic lettering on both as 'St Bridget's Well'. It is situated on a level landscape. This is a natural rectangular spring (dims c. 5m E-W; c. 2m N-S) surrounded by field stones and overgrown but open to the SW and used by cattle. Linked to St. Brigid of Kildare, the well is associated with healing and fertility traditions. Pilgrimages and offerings, such as coins or clooties, may have been made to the site, reflecting the saint's widespread veneration in early Irish Christianity.
